There are some very good reasons why installers and end-users are better off with self-certified products rather than third-party certified. Once a product has been third-party certified the manufacturer is forbidden from making ANY updates, fixes or improvements without going through the assessment process again.
For example, Virgin Media’s latest Hub 4 router is incompatible with many existing Wi-Fi modules. An end-user could have a fully working alarm system and then upgrade his home internet to the Hub 4, only to find that stopped his alarm system working. If this was reliant on a third-party certified comms module then not only does the manufacturer have to find a fix, they then have to begin the long and expensive process of getting the updated module re-certified. This process can take weeks or even months. Throughout that time the end-user is left with no working alarm system. Contrast that with a self-certified product where the manufacturer can get the problem fixed and the end-user’s system working again within a day or two. That’s what Orisec did, others didn’t! You decide which you’d prefer!
Orisec have the best of both worlds. Our products undergo rigorous third-party testing to enable us to confidently self-certify. This gives Orisec customers the advantage that we can react quickly to market changes and requirements. For manufacturers that rely on third-party certification, installers could be waiting weeks or even months for each change to get signed off.
